Susan Amron became General Counsel at the New York City Department of City Planning in 2019. She previously served as the Chief of the New York City Law Department’s Environmental Division since 2010, after serving the division for many years. Susan is involved in every aspect of environmental decision-making in the City, and over the course of her career, has been responsible for, among many other things, negotiating the landmark 1997 Memorandum of Agreement to protect the City’s drinking water supply system, leading the legal teams that fought challenges to the creation of Brooklyn Bridge Park and the reconstruction of athletic fields on Randall’s Island, and coordinating the City’s participation in the CERCLA remediation of Newtown Creek and Gowanus Canal. Susan also won a groundbreaking $105-million jury verdict in a lawsuit brought against ExxonMobil for contaminating the City’s groundwater.
