Maggie Broughton was selected to be the Director of NYCELLI in 2025. They were a member of the NYCELLI Class of 2022, and for their environmental project, they collaborated with two other students to create a publicly-accessible website that compared and critiqued New York’s and New Jersey’s site remediation laws and programs. In their role as Director, Maggie sets the curriculum and engages speakers, oversees the class, manages outreach and events, and coordinates with NYCELLI’s board.
In 2021, Maggie joined the Eastern Environmental Law Center in Newark, New Jersey, as their Environmental Justice Staff Attorney, where they continue to work today. Prior to joining the Eastern Environmental Law Center, Maggie was a law clerk at Bryan Brice and Associates in Raleigh, North Carolina. During Maggie’s time in law school, they held a internships with Super Law Group in New York, New York, and the Southern Environmental Law Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Maggie has a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy and religious studies from Ithaca College, and a J.D. and Master’s of Environmental Law and Policy from Vermont Law School. Maggie now resides in Jersey City, where they coach fitness classes at Row House’s Jersey City Location, but Maggie often ventures across the Hudson River to play the sousaphone in the Queer Big Apple Corps Marching Band.
