NYCELLI is committed to an open application process and to choosing a diverse class from a balance of backgrounds and practice sectors (private, government, and non-profit). All applications are reviewed by the Director and members of the Board of Advisors, and up to 12 participants will be accepted each year.

Participants must have taken a survey course in environmental law during law school, have experience working in the field of environmental law (ideally two years or more), or otherwise have a demonstrated interest in environmental law.  There is a strong preference for participants who graduated law school in 2011 or later.

Participants must also demonstrate a commitment to environmental law, leadership, and service, and to advocating for environmental health, through volunteer work for non-profit environmental or conservation organizations; independent research, publications, or other writings; or current or previous professional work in the environmental field.
